Beauty Rest is not Just for Sleeping Beauty
Benjamin Franklin is often quoted as saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
As your cosmetic dermatology partner, we have many ways to reverse the effects of unhealthy
lifestyles, and unprotected sun exposure—though some of them are not fun. A better way is to
prevent wrinkling and spotting before it happens! Appropriate beauty rest is a way to meet this goal!

Amid this hectic season of weddings and travel, know beauty rest is a real thing. It’s generally
recommended adults aged 26 to 64 years get seven to nine hours of sleep. Quality sleep and
how you sleep makes the difference. If you are a side sleeper or sleep on your stomach and
therefore on your face, you need to STOP immediately! Sleeping on your back is the only way to
get your beauty rest. It is imperative you sleep on your back because, over the 7-9 hours you are
sleeping your face and chest are being compressed and smushed. This creates a crease in your
skin and night after night those creases become permanent unwanted wrinkles. Yes, they can be
treated but preventing these “sleep lines” by sleeping on your back is an essential part of your
skin care routine.
Why is sufficient uninterrupted sleep on your back–your beauty rest, so important to your looks?
Your skin cells get time to repair.

Your skin benefits from the same rest and relaxation as your internal organs, no better
illustrated than by the effect exhaustion and stress have on eye puffiness and acne flare-
ups.
You’re promoting better blood flow! One of the keys to a glowing complexion and even
healthy tresses may be your bed, not that product.
You don’t create or exacerbate “sleep line” wrinkles.
