Sprucing up your skin for the summer
You may have been under lockdown for a while. However, being in isolation doesn’t mean you have to let yourself go and neglect your skin health. After all, you are not going to remain in lockdown forever! Summer is fast approaching, and you should start refreshing your skin in preparation.
Since you have some time on your hands now, why not start on your skin routine, so that your skin is ready to face the sun and the world post-lockdown?
Cleanse and moisturize: These are essential even if you are indoors. Washing your face to rid it of the dirt and grime of the day as well as the environmental toxins that have built up is important to maintaining your skin’s health no matter what. Using a face wash that does not dry out your skin is essential. If it leaves your skin feeling tight, itchy or dry then it is too harsh of a face wash. Those feelings mean the natural oils have been stripped from your skin, which drives your oil glands into overproduction and worsens acne.
Sunscreen is an important weapon in your battle against the sun’s harshness, especially with the days becoming more sunny as Summer approaches. Make sure you’re applying broad spectrum sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30. If you are going into the water, make sure your sunscreen is water resistant 40 or 80 minutes depending on your activity, and reapply after you get out of the water. Reapplication is one of the most important steps in preventing skin cancer.
Lastly, don’t forget your feet: Gently buff them and apply a good foot cream or vaseline overnight to ready them for sandals.
