Stay Sun-Safe in Summer!
Did you know that August is Summer Sun Safety Month? Since we are still enjoying the summer sun, with some of us not paying so much attention to skin protection, it is the ideal time to remind everyone about the importance of protecting the skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays.
Sun exposure is vital for a healthy life, but excessive exposure is not! This annual event reminds you why you should stay safe while enjoying the summer. You can still get all the sun you need while wearing sunscreen.
Over-exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light can not only cause skin cancers but also lead to eye cancers and cataracts. UV rays are believed to be at their strongest between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m., so it is excellent if you can avoid the outdoors during this time.
Putting on a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a 30+ SPF and re-applying it every two hours, wearing sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, long-sleeved tops, and long bottoms, and using an umbrella are advised if you have to be outside. Hydration is another essential step.
