Simple Steps for Common Summer Skin Woes
Summer is finally here! As you gear up to head out, be mindful of the harsh sun that can cause a range of skin issues. Two of the most common concerns are acne and heat rash.
One of the most common problems during the summer is acne breakouts. When sweat combines with the oils and bacteria on your skin, it can lead to clogging of the skin’s pores and increased breakouts. To prevent this, always pat your sweat dry with a clean cloth or towel rather than wiping it off. Wash any sweaty clothing, hats, and headbands before wearing them. Stock up your skincare shelf with non-comedogenic products for the chest, back, neck and face.
Heat rash is another common concern during the summer months. Blocked sweat glands cause heat rash or prickly heat. Since the sweat cannot get out, it builds up beneath the skin causing itchy, tiny bumps. Consider wearing loose-fitting cotton clothes. Exercise outdoors during the cooler hours of the day or work out while indoors. Try to keep your skin as cool as possible. Remove sweaty clothes and shower as soon as you’re done wearing them. Consider a mild exfoliant for the body like a wash with salicylic acid.
