Endovenous Chemical Ablation
Bulging, ropey veins on the surface of the skin can be a cause of embarrassment, especially in visible areas of the body. Dr. Amanda Lloyd of the Skin and Vein Institute recommends Endovenous Chemical Ablation for patients looking to address this issue.
Video Transcript
What is endovenous chemical ablation?
Endovenous chemical ablation is the use of a sclerosing solution and ultrasound guidance to treat those bulging, ropey veins in the lower extremities.
How does endovenous chemical ablation work?
Endovenous chemical ablation is an ultra sound guided procedure in which a sclerosing solution is injected into the abnormal, bulging, ropey vein. The sclerosing solution causes a chemical reaction on the inside of the vein, making the vein walls stick together.
The external compression stocking that you wear allow the vein walls to remain stuck together so that your body can remove them via natural processes.
Who is a candidate for endovenous chemical ablation?
Anyone with abnormal bulging, ropey veins is a candidate for endovenous chemical ablation
Will my insurance cover an endovenous chemical ablation treatment?
Occasionally, endovenous chemical ablation is covered by medical insurance.
What should I know about the procedure and recovery?
On your treatment day, you will bring with you your compression stoking, when you arrive at the Skin & Vein Institute, we will bring you back to the procedure room where we will use ultrasound guidance to perform the endovenous chemical ablation. Afterwards we will apply your compression stocking and you will wear your compression stocking for 24 hours a day for the first 3 days and then for 12 hours a day for the next 10 days.
Is endovenous chemical ablation safe?
When performed at the Skin & Vein Institute using ultrasound guidance, endovenous chemical ablation is both safe and effective at removing those bulgy, ropey, unsightly veins of the lower legs.
