Corrine: today I want to talk about a few tanning products that we both like, and neither of us are paid for these recommendations.
Dr. Lloyd: Nope
Corrine: So this is just simply 2 women who love to have beautiful tan skin without actually harming our skin with the damaging rays of the sun. For me, when I was in college I was surrounded by girls that went to tanning salons, and I was so scared of going to one. I thought some bulb was going to break, some wire was going to pop out and I come from a family where skin cancer is a real thing
Dr. Lloyd: Mhmm definitely
Corrine: You probably see it in your patients here in California.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes skin cancer is definitely a real thing and tanning salons even lying on that beautiful San Diego beach is great but it comes with its risks which get out when you’re older.
Corrine: So one way that I found out about it, whether it was from cheerleading in college to now not having to worry about tan lines and not lying out in the sun, is self-tanners.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes
Corrine: You and I have talked about this because we love having that golden glow without the risk. It makes you feel good so 2 of the things that I want to talk about today are self-tanner and what to do when you have them on and how to prep for it.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes
Corrine: So my 2 favorite and again no financial interests are from St. Tropez, and also from Loving Tan. What’s great about these tanners is that I instantly have a tan overnight so I sleep and I wake up feeling good and feeling gorgeous.
Dr. Lloyd: That’s the best morning.
Corrine: Isn’t it the best morning I feel like you look skinnier, your skin is glowing.
Dr. Lloyd: Your teeth are whiter. You look fantastic!
Corrine: Exactly and another way to apply self-tanner other than a lotion variety is to spray it on with a spray tan machine
Dr. Lloyd: Yes
Corrine: One of our favorite brands, both her and I use this, is Norvell.
Dr. Lloyd: Again Norvell doesn’t pay us but this is a solution that her and i both have found. Its tried and true it’s consistent it lasts and for me, my tans usually last about 7 – 14 days. How about for you?
Corrine: Yep about 7 – 14 days especially with the Norvell solution. I really wanted to have a spray tan, I got tired of using the lotion I wanted to manage it at home, of course!
Dr. Lloyd: I don’t have the money to go out and pay for a spray tan in the salon every 2 weeks, so I bought a maxi mist on amazon. I bought some Norvell solution and I just go in my backyard or my bathroom and spray myself. You spray right before you go to bed you have good night sleep, you wake up in the morning and you’re refreshed and have this nice healthy glow.
Corrine: The other thing I want to remind people is that this tan doesn’t protect our skin from the sun, so you still have to wear sunscreen, you still need to wear a hat, you still need to do all the things regardless if you have a spray tan or not.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes yes yes
Corrine: The other thing is hydration. That is another big thing, drink lots of water to hydrate your skin.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes that’s always good for you.
Corrine: Well, yes that is nutrition for your skin.
Dr. Lloyd: Exactly
Corrine: And then also making sure you put lotion on and again always, always wearing sunscreen.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes you definitely have to protect your skin even with a spray tan.
Corrine: One other thing we forgot to mention is how we prep our skin for self-tanners.
Dr. Lloyd: Mhmm
Corrine: What is your favorite way to prep your skin before a self-tanner?
Dr. Lloyd: Before a self-tanner you want to make sure you exfoliate your skin, so you want to have all of those dead skin cells off your skin, you can do that with one of those little mitts that you can buy on Amazon or at the store.
Corrine: Shave your legs.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes shave your legs, of you really want to go crazy you can go to the Korean spa and get you know a body buff and they’ll get everything off.
Corrine: Absolutely stuff you didn’t even know about.
Dr. Lloyd: Right exactly.
Corrine: And then after you do that, then is when you do your self-tanner.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes
Corrine: Okay perfect I think that answers all the questions I had about self-tanner. What question does our audience have that maybe we can answer and explain the process to them?
Corrine: One of the questions we did get from our audience is that if you don’t go for a spray tan, or you don’t have the time or energy to put on self-tanner or the mousse or lotion we discussed the night before, what would be your options to still have the sun kissed glow?
Dr. Lloyd: Yes so if you don’t have time to do a spray or a lotion, there are powders out there like this PowderMe SPF from Jane Iredale, Colorescience also makes one. These are a little bit different in that they have some sunscreen, so an spf of 20 which is good in a pinch you can keep them in your care and just dab a little on you know your neck your chest or your arms, and depending on if you want more of a glow or not a glow, the Powder Me spf comes in a variety of colors. So I like the iridescent that doesn’t add any colour and I just keep it in my car and if I’m out and about I can just dab it on and take it away.
Corrine: I think that’s really interesting because you know sometimes we do as the day goes on we need a little pop of color to freshen us up and again with these products these are just some of our personal favorite products that both Dr. Lloyd and I use.We have no financial interest with these companies but again this is just stuff that we love doing and we want to share with you.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes
