4 tips for skin that outshines the sun (in a healthy way)!
Many products promise to make your skin “glow.” Glowing skin refers to heightened color or bloom, usually associated with youth and health. We know glowing skin when we see it.
While our skin takes a beating in the hot, sweaty, sunny days of summer, your glow can persist year-round – whatever Mother Nature brings:
- Fountain of Youth in a bottle – Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily with an SPF of at least 30. If you’re swimming or sweating make sure you use a water resistant sunscreen and reapply often. Seek shade as much as possible but if you’re going to be out be sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat and UPF (Ultraprotection Factor) clothes. Regular self-exams and professional checks help detect early-stage skin cancers, when they’re most treatable. These steps keep your skin its healthy, glowing best.
- Wash the right way – Gently blot away the sweat and other grime that accumulates when you’re outdoors. After a sunny day, try to limit bath or shower time and keep the water on the cooler side so it doesn’t irritate already dry or stressed skin. Avoid strong fragrant soaps which significantly dry out the skin. After you’re all clean, apply moisturizer when your skin is still damp, so you lock the moisture in.
- Stress less – With so many summer commitments, your acne, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea may flare. Truly enjoy your vacation. Make time for activities you love and take the time to care for yourself.
- Feed that glow – You may crave leafy greens and fresh citrus in the summer months, be sure to keep it up as fresh produce is great for luminous skin. Hydrate, too. Drink more water (than margaritas)!
