Travel tips for your skin from international Ms. Corinne Devine and Dr. Amanda Lloyd
Ms. Devin: So one of the things that most people don’t know about me is that I am a commander in the Navy. As a commander in the Navy, I travel all over the world and I think that is one of the things we have in common. What was the last trip you went on with your husband, Dr. Lloyd?
Dr. Lloyd: We most recently went to Indonesia.
Ms. Devin: On my goodness and in a place like Indonesia you probably have to wear sunscreen but you guys are snorkeling and can you even wear sunscreen when you snorkel?
Dr. Lloyd: Of course! There is sunscreen that is water resistant you have to reapply but they definitely stay put. One of the companies puts a little beeswax in their sunscreen so it stays put when you’re wet and it really does a great job at protecting your skin while you’re on the boat, but you’ve got to put it in your checked bag because you have to bring a lot.
Ms. Devin: Well you know I think she brings up a really good point when we travel all over the world, and if you travel to a place not too far from here, it doesn’t mean you have to skip on your skin care regimen.
Dr. Lloyd: Exactly
Ms. Devin: You know, especially with our checked suitcase that the TSA has approved, you actually can still bring a lot of your favorite products and you don’t have to skip on it.
Dr. Lloyd: Right
Ms. Devin: What are some of your favorite things that you love to pack especially for your summer trips in the warm months?
Dr. Lloyd: For the warm months I like to bring my sunscreen, my antioxidant and then my retinoid for nighttime. So I continue my same routine that I have at home, but I just bring little small sizes because you don’t have time to carry the big, heavy things of you know every single product but you don’t want to lose out on the time that you could be treating your skin so you just little samples of your regimen.
Ms. Devin: I totally agree. I feel the same way with bringing a face wash, and bringing some sort of eye cream. It is one of those things when you are on vacation you don’t want to get out of that routine of taking good care of your skin, no matter where you are.
Dr. Lloyd: Exactly.
Ms. Devin: And that you know that also bring me back to you know we’re in October, we’re in the fall we’re going to start those winter months, what are some of the favorite things that you bring especially when you travel because I know you have families from the Midwest and obviously they get a lot of snow there and the environment there is much different than her in California. What do you like to bring on those trips?
Dr. Lloyd: So on cold trips you want to make sure you bring a really good moisturizer because flying dries out your skin and then that bitter cold it just sucks you dry like a raisin.
Ms. Devin: Okay.
Dr. Lloyd: So you want to make sure you bring a really good moisturizer. You should be using a good moisturizer anyway, but you might need to upgrade to something a little bit thicker. Maybe something a little bit oilier like a cream instead of a lotion or if you use a gel, you could use a cream so that you provide extra hydration to your skin. I think those are really good points. I feel that we’re all striving for good skin, ad in order to have good skin you just can’t take a vacation from it. Just like anything else that we do, whether we’re taking a vacation from the gym or a vacation from our health or job, your skin care routine is still possible because we can bring fun size portions with us.
Ms. Devin: Yeah tiny size portions.
Dr. Lloyd: Yes, whether it’s in our carryon bag or checked bag and that way when we come back from vacation not only so we feel refreshed but we look refreshed with great skin.
Ms. Devin: Exactly you want to maintain your skin’s health while you’re travelling and rejuvenating it so you keep your skin healthy.
Dr. Lloyd: Absolutely.
